Step one: decide what the page must do
Write down the three things a new customer must learn, and the single action you want them to take. Almost every decision after this follows from those four lines.
Step two: gather the content once
- Ten to twenty good photographs, taken in daylight, of real work.
- A short description of the business in your own voice.
- Your services or product range, with prices if you show them.
- Every destination you want to send people to.
- Anything you can genuinely evidence: qualifications, memberships, insurance.
Step three: choose where it lives
The realistic options are a full website you build or commission, a self-serve link page you maintain, or a made-for-you page like a Shop Window. The right answer depends on how much the page will change and how much of your own time it deserves.

- Worth keeping: a booking system that fills your diary, a business email address, a domain if you own one.
- Worth questioning: a site builder subscription for a page you change twice a year.
- Worth questioning: paid plugins and add-ons for features you never switched on.
- Worth avoiding: anything you cannot cancel without losing your content entirely.
Being realistic about what one-off means
One-off should mean you pay for the build and it is not a subscription. It does not honestly mean free forever, and any provider promising lifetime hosting is making a promise nobody can guarantee. Read the terms and check what is included, for how long, and what a future change costs.
